This song is about the plight of the Hector's and Maui Dolphins, which only live in the seas around Aotearoa.
This is from the World Wildlife Fund: "...thirty years ago there were over 26,000 Hector's and Maui's dolphins. Today, due to human activity, there is a struggling population of around 7,270 Hector's dolphins - and Maui's are the rarest marine dolphins in the world with around 110 left."
A large part of this 'human activity' is the use of setnets in the dolphins' territory. For the dolphins to survive and beat extinction, we need to ensure that only selective fishing methods are used in areas where Hector’s and Maui dolphins are found.
This EP is called 'Homebrewed' because brewing beer is what started me on my path to self-sufficiency. The tracks are all recorded in this self-sufficient fashion by me on my own equipment, and are set up to mirror as closely as possible the way they are played live - through the use of a Boss RC-50 Loop Station. This live looped performance is something I've been working on for a wee while and now that I've got this EP recorded it's time to write some new songs!
